Telford Rally 2009 Dee’s Report

Telford Rally Review

Pete and I attended the Telford Rally held at the Craven Arms for the first time this year. Pete was working Saturday morning so i got everything ready at home so we could load up the Reliant Rialto on his return.

It was a glorious sunny day as we set off from our home complete with pink afro wigs for a laugh, we certainly got a few smiles and odd looks as we left the estate. The sat nav guided us through some lovely scenery as it lead us to our destination, which as always it couldn’t find!!! Luckily we texted Marion Jordan who kindly gave us directions and met us on the road outside the campsite. As she was guiding us to the field, Pete went to put the car in reverse and promptly pulled out the gear lever which he then waved to Marion. He is getting a bit of a reputation for that now as the same thing had happened the week before at the National when he was driving Kerry Croxtons Tandy Camper.

We made it to the campsite where Kerry provided a welcome cuppa and we set up our tent. The days events started shortly afterwards, there was plenty for people to take part in, car of the day, horse shoes, lawn darts, corks, spark plug challenge, the most popular definitely seemed to be the tire change challenge, everyone seemed to be trying to beat Geoff Payne’s time, no one did and he won.Me personally I chilled out in the sun with the BBD and watched the action.

Later that afternoon was the prizing giving and raffle, which was delayed slightly by the arrival of the ice cream van which did a roaring trade in the heat! I was chuffed because i won a paddling pool in the raffle for the girls.

In the evening there was an American supper followed by Bingo and a Miss Telford competition, for which some willing male volunteers were dressed up in drag , plastered in make up by the kids and paraded on the catwalk. It was a great laugh for all. The rest of the evening was spent generally chatting and socializing with the other members.

The following morning was leaving day so we packed up the camping gear, although we did have a few problems trying to get the pop up tent back in the bag, but one of the younger members was on hand to give Pete some help and advice. We joined in the coffee morning and closing ceremony then Pete and a few other gentlemen helped take down the Gazebo.

All in all it was a great weekend, we were made to feel really welcome by everyone, the campsite and its facilities were clean and well maintained. Look forward to going again next year
