Telford Rally 2009 Paul’s Report

Report on the 2009 Telford Rally

Following a wonderful sunny National Rally the rain started to come down as we moved on to Craven Arms for the Telford Rally. The unsettled weather stayed with us until Wednesday but then the sun came out and promised us another hot weekend.

Friday evening started with a baked potato supper followed by bingo under the marquee then chatting and chilling with our friends.

Saturday was another glorious day with brilliant sunshine to play the games in. Several day visitors arrived to swell the numbers and all were given a warm welcome. Games on offer included horseshoes, lawn darts, target frizbees, bowls and timed spark plug changing.

We had an American supper in the marquee after prize giving then the evening’s entertainment kicked off with a game of bingo. Next the Master of Ceremonies (me!) asked for five male volunteers to come forward. They were then set upon by the children with lipstick, eyeshadow etc in readiness to contest the title of “Miss Telford Rally 2009”. Dressers were ready with recycled clothing, wigs and jewellery to finish the picture before the contestants were asked a few leading questions each, and asked to parade up and down the marquee to give the audience ample opportunity to choose their favourite. The eventual winner was Dan Stone who looked every inch the woman he is not! A lot of photo’s were taken of this event so I don’t think there is much chance of Dan hushing it up!

After rather a late night star gazing, Sunday again dawned bright and sunny which was ideal for packing up. We had a coffee morning at 11am where all the site fees were collected and the rally formally closed by this year’s hostess, Ruth Lewins.
